Schwarzkopf, an American hero who is popularly known as "Hurricane Norman," died in Tampa, where he retired after his last military assignment as commander in chief of U.S. Central Command.
Former President George HW Bush, who is now ill and in intensive care in Texas, was the first to issue a statement mourning the loss of the person she chose to lead the war who later established career both.
"Barbara and I mourn the passing of a true American patriot and one of the great military leaders of his generation," said the senior Bush.
"A member of the Long Gray Line leading from West Point, Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, to me, symbolizes the recognition of 'duty, service, states' that have defended freedom and see this great nation through most of our efforts in resolving international crises," said Bush.
"More than that, he was a good and decent man, and a friend. Barbara and I send condolences to his wife, Brenda, and her family are happy."
One of the famous line spoken by Schwarzkopf Desert Storm operation is ahead of his time viewing the ability of Iraqi forces and Saddam Hussein. It seems clear that Schwarzkopf is the respect of others, including their enemies.
"Saddam Hussein is not a strategy designer. He also trained militarily. He is not a tactician. He's not a general or a soldier. But apart from all that, he (Saddam) was a powerful military leader. I want you to know it, "he said at the time.
Operation Desert Storm led succeeded in liberating Kuwait in just 100 hours. Maneuver its ground war against Iraqi forces invited a lot of praise from military experts around the world.
