7.5 magnitude Earthquake Jiggle Alaska, 8900 Residents Flee

An earthquake measuring 7.5 magnitude rocked the Pacific Coast of Alaska, the United States (U.S.), Saturday (5/1) local time, or Sunday (6/1) Indonesia time. Coastal areas of Alaska to Canada British Columbia potentially affected by the tsunami.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake centered about 60 miles (100 km) southwest of Port Alexander, a town near the southern tip of Baranof Island, at a depth of six miles (10 km).

It is reported that currently, around 8900 people in low areas Sitka, Alaska, fled to the highlands, at least until the tsunami warning lifted.
